Our Gold Rider Leyland Cypresses
The Gold Rider has bright golden-yellow tipped foliage that is displayed year-round and contrasts with lime green at the interior of the cypress. A dense, upright, pyramidal tree for hedging, screening or a striking specimen. Easy to shear to provide a more formal appearance. Yet, its most important feature is that this plant is cold hardy to zone 5 whereas the regular Leyland Cypress is hardy only to zone 6. Our Standard Leyland Cypresses
Leyland cypress (x Cupressocyparis leylandii) is a large, handsome evergreen that is used in USDA zones 6 and up.. It is a favorite because it is fast growing. It is adapted to many parts of the northeast.
Leyland Cypress have branches that grow upright and do not droop. They are an evergreen tree, and the foliage is generally blue-green in color. It does not produce flowers, but it will produce cones.

We grow Leyland Cypresses in Bulk. Leyland cypress has become one of the most widely used plants in commercial and residential landscapes across eastern US States as a formal hedge, screen, buffer strip, or wind barrier. Leyland cypress is a graceful, rapidly growing evergreen tree that is adapted for growth within the 6-10a USDA hardiness zones. The tree is best suited for fertile, well-drained soils. However, when young, the tree will grow up to 3-4 feet per year, even in poor soils. The tree will ultimately attain a majestic height of up to 40 feet. Leyland cypress forms a dense, oval or pyramidal outline when left unpruned, but the refined, slightly pendulous branches will tolerate hard trimming to create a formal hedge, screen or windbreak. The fine, feathery foliage is soft, pointed leaves on flattened branchlets, dark blue-green when mature but soft and bright green when young.
On planting, give the leylands plenty of room. Never plant to close to a driveway or be prepared to replace the driveway. 8 to 10 ft away is suggested.
Category:
Plant Leyland cypress in well drained, sunny locations. They will not stand wet soils and will
respond to wet feet by getting sick or dying. Mulch Leyland Cypresses after planting but do not over mulch.
Mulches should be no deeper than one inches. Do not use landscape fabric unless the soil is very
well drained. Avoid landscaping rocks.
