Highland Hill Farm of Doylestown Pa and Milan Pa will deliver and plant nursery stock directly to properties in the Northeast Pa Area. Our trucks and crews can make your landscape needs a reality. We have the plants, the staff, and the knowledge to provide you with quality materials and grower pricing. Because we grow most of the plants that we sell and plant, we can give you plants at wholesale pricing.
Highland Hill Farm delivers and plants a wide range of nursery stock to properties located just 8 miles north of Towanda in Bradford County Pa on route 6. Our trucks pass thru the Northeast Pa area as we supply our nurseries and growing operations that are in Bucks County and Bradford Counties. We can easily drop off at your location as we travel the route 6 on a regular basis. We currently have over 500 acres dedicated to trees, plants and shrub production. We like to market our stock to both the retail trade and to the wholesale trade. If we can’t deliver and plant to you in a timely basis, we have subcontractors who know the Bradford County area. Our trucks can deliver tractor trailer loads of plant materials if necessary.
Besides quality, direct from the grower pricing, our crews know our stock and have helped in the growing and care of our plants. We can also assist you in your hardscaping and landscape designs needs. We are affiliated with Chris Orser Landscaping who installs many of our plants and has a crew of 30 full time landscape crew employees.

We are one of the largest nurseries in Pa. We have several hundred acres in production in Bucks County and almost 1500 acres in Milan, Bradford County Pa. Arborvitae are commonly used evergreen shrubs or trees useful in urban areas where low maintenance and durability is needed. Many cultivars with forms such as being global in shape, columnar, or narrow pyramidal, tend to be used near buildings, doors, and walkways. Other forms which are larger are used for screens and buffers that can be planted individually or in rows.

The form of an arborvitae is small, medium, or large depending on the cultivar. Some reach 50', others only 3'. Most prefer full sun to partial sun. Planting in dense shade conditions should be avoided. A moist, well-drained, loamy soil in full sunlight is the ideal condition for growing healthy arborvitae. These plants will tolerate rocky, clay, and the urban conditions of heat, drought, and pollution. The most annoying pest for an arborvitae is the bagworm. It must be controlled to prevent complete defoliation. Some arborvitae cultivars have multiple leaders which can be a detraction for the plant. Pruning out multiple leaders in some cultivars is a simple remedy.
Our most popular Arborvitae is the Emerald Green arborvitae. Many people prefer to spell them Arbor Vitae . It is a bright, light green color, and narrow in shape. It makes a distinctive and impressive natural fence. It is easy to grow, plant, and keep in shape.
The Hetz Midget arborvitae is a dwarf globe variety. This is a good choice for along walkways and gardens. This is a tough plant that is easy to install and not going to cost a lot. It will maintain its color in the winter and will withstand snow loads well. We carry these plants in 2 and 3 gal. pots.
Another small arborvitae that we grow in pots is the Rheingold arborvitae. This is a small globe shaped plant that has a golden green cast to it in the summer and a bronze winter color.
We also have the American Arborvitae known as "Tiny Tim".This arborvitae grows in zone 2 - 7. Its is a needled evergreen
in the Cupressaceae Family. It will grow in height from a half a foot to 1 foot tall. Its
spread will be about 1 to 1.5 feet. This is a plant that requires little work.
Selecting quality arborvitae for the home landscape :
When you get to the nursery or garden center where you will buy your arborvitae, pick out the healthiest, most robust plants that have no evidence of disease or insect damage. The potting medium should be moist, but not wet, and the roots should well dispersed in the medium. Arborvitae that have roots growing from the drainage holes or circling the top of the pot are less desirable. Many people choose to buy arborvitae from a mail order company, which is perfectly acceptable. However, realize that most woody plants purchased from mail order catalogs will be shipped dormant and bare root, that is, without any soil attached to the root system. Such plants may be smaller in size because of the expense of shipping. It is important to plant such material immediately upon arrival. Generally it is best to purchase one-year-old material from mail order companies since this material is more vigorous and will transplant better. The larger material from mail order companies that is offered is often composed of the less vigorous plants held over from previous years. Most large sized arborvitae are balled and burlapped. Don't buy any arborvitae bare rooted over 3' tall. Any plant larger should be balled and burlapped.

Boxwoods Available at Highland Hill Farm
Boxwoods are one of many broad-leaved evergreens popular in the landscape. Boxwoods can be true aristocrats of your landscape. These plants require little attention and develop into long-lived hardy plants with a little protection just being mindful of their preferences for conditions. Avoid sites that have wide fluctuations in temperature ,long dry periods, drying winds, and intense bright sunshine. These evergreens are well worth your efforts. In return these plants are naturally offensive to deer. Liberal use in your landscape makes your garden less attractive for the deer. Boxwoods drop few leaves at any one time making them a clean plant with little mess. Boxwoods seldom become overgrown and are relatively pest and disease free. These plants love a rich, well drained soil. Using aged compost to modify the soils helps improve poor existing soils. Protect the boxwoods from winter injury by planting them on the protected north and east sides of buildings or where they will receive wind protection from natural features such as other trees or embankments. Fertilize boxwoods only in the spring. Avoid winter scorch on plants by watering if rainfall is deficient. Plant larger plants if you expect winter hardiness to be a factor. Large plants have more reserves and can usually survive the first year after purchase better. Boxwoods will add year round interest to your landscape when located properly and provide contrast within your landscape in all seasons. See How We Dig Many of Our Evergreens. We have available 20 different types of hollies at Highland Hill Farm. See How We Dig and Our Efforts in Producing Many of Our Trees and Shrubs. Although most often associated with Christmas, hollies are used to good advantage in gardens as specimen trees or foundation plantings providing attractive decoration the year round. This feature of year round interest is complimented by fresh wreaths that can be made from trimmings at Christmas.
There are many species of hollies we offer, one of which, the Inkberry grows from 4 to 15 feet in height and features lustrous dark green leaves and black berries. Another other, Winterberry, is a deciduous plant with red berries. It grows to a height of about eight feet and is extremely hardy. We offer new hybrids, known as the Blue Hollies. These resemble the traditional varieties but are reliable choices for growing conditions in the eastern United States. Many cultivars are now available, but two of the proven varieties for our area are "Blue Prince" and "Blue Princess".
These plants respond well to clipping and make excellent hedges. They also perform better than most hollies to exposed areas and strong winds.
